Emotional Freedom Technique
What is Energy Psychology and how is it beneficial?
Energy psychology (EP) is a fairly new collection of mind-body approaches for understanding and improving human functioning. EP focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behaviors, and known bioenergy systems such as meridians and the biofield. These systems exist and interact, within individuals and between people. They are also influenced by cultural and environmental factors. Negative events, experiences, and trauma can negatively influence how you see the world, experience emotion and relate to others. Energy psychology methods can gently, efficiently and effectively release or clear these events that are frozen in time in the body-mind system.

What is EFT and how does it work?
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a simple, efficient, and effective tool that anyone can use to address a myriad of challenges. Based on the premise of Chinese acupuncture, EFT utilizes the acupuncture meridian points on the body - stimulating those same points by tapping with one's fingers instead of using needles – in order to diminish, dissolve, or neutralize emotional or physical pain.
When trauma in any form is experienced, our body’s natural reaction is to freeze or suppress our negative emotions. The energy behind that situation becomes “blocked” or frozen in our energy meridian system. When these blockages are not released they can result in dis-ease – our physical body’s natural reaction to blocked energy. EFT can quickly and effortlessly clear those blockages and alleviate physical pain, phobias, anxiety, grief, addictions, negative thought patterns and beliefs, etc. Once an individual masters this simple technique, it can be used any time emotional overwhelm occurs - putting healing into one’s own hands.
What does an EFT session look like?
EFT sessions are scheduled just like any other therapy session and are typically 50 minutes in length. A situation, memory, or feeling is brought up in the form of words, thoughts and emotions. This can be done verbally by the client, but content can also be kept silent if the client is not comfortable disclosing a situation. The associated emotions are identified and given a rating (1-10). I sit across from the client and guide them using words and emotions that have been relayed, and I tap on the EFT points on my body while the client simply models and echos my words and actions. Tapping occurs until that rating decreases to 0 or 1.
