Emotional Freedom Technique (aka "tapping")
What is Energy Psychology and How is it Beneficial?
Energy psychology is a collection of mind-body approaches for understanding and improving human functioning. It focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behaviors, and various energy systems in our bodies that can create health and vitality or can result in illness and emotional distress. Negative events, experiences, and trauma can negatively influence how an individual sees the world, experience emotion and relate to others. When trauma in any form is experienced, our body’s natural reaction is to suppress those negative emotions or sensations because they are uncomfortable. Those emotions become stuck or “blocked” in our bodies energy systems. The Chinese believe that such blockages result in dis-ease – our physical body’s natural reaction to suppressed negative emotions. Energy psychology methods can gently, efficiently and effectively clear these emotions and experiences that seem to be stuck in the body-mind system.
What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and How Does it Work?
EFT is the most widely-researched and used technique in this field. It is a simple, efficient, and effective technique that nearly anyone can use to address a myriad of challenges. Based on the philosophy of Chinese acupuncture, one stimulates various acupressure points by tapping with one's fingers (instead of needles!) to diminish, dissolve, or neutralize emotional or physical pain. Tapping on those points calms the nervous system and neutralizes
physical pain, phobias, anxiety, grief, addictions, negative thought patterns, trauma, etc.
Once an individual masters this simple technique, it can be used any time there is an occurrence of emotional overwhelm,
physical pain or uncomfortable sensations. EFT has the capacity to put healing into one’s own hands, reducing the time, money, and energy that is often spent on therapy, medical appointments, and medication. It’s natural, easy, and effective.
What does an EFT session look like?
EFT sessions are scheduled just like any other therapy session and are typically 55 minutes in length. They are essentially a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and somatic therapy. The client may generate a list of challenges that need to be addressed. A situation, memory, or feeling is brought up in the form of words, thoughts and/or emotions which are then rated (1-10). The therapist sits across from the client and guides the client to focus on those identified sensations in the body. The therapist taps on specific meridian points on their body while the client models and echoes the therapist’s words and actions. Tapping occurs in this manner until the intensity of those emotions is decreased or neutralized to a manageable level.
What is the Cost?
Private sessions are $150 per session, or $400 for three sessions if paid in advance.
$150 an hour for small groups, conferences, presenting at schools, work settings, retreats, community centers, churches, etc.
