Psychological Services for Children and Adolescents
Initial Assessment:
I begin with an in-depth parent interview and take a holistic assessment of all facets of life (parent/family history, family dynamics, social/emotional status, trauma history, academics, medical, mental health, spiritual/religious, etc.) and consider how these situations have potentially influenced current circumstances. I collaborate with other service providers, organizations, or schools in the assessment process when appropriate and allowed. I then do an interview with the client. From there, I determine a treatment plan.
What might therapy look like?
I provide short-term, solution-focused therapy to individuals and families. Therapy may be my providing weekly sessions with a client to assist them in learning appropriate coping techniques or thought patterns. It could also entail sessions with parents - providing parent consultation for how best to address their child’s needs. Therapy can incorporate techniques such as mindfulness, visualization, and relaxation. I am an enthusiastic practitioner of Emotional Freedom Technique (a.k.a "tapping”) – a somatic intervention used to neutralize or eliminate overwhelming negative emotions. My goal is to provide interventions and recommendations that help to move the client and/or family toward wholeness and harmony.
How long does therapy last?
The length of treatment varies depending upon the referral or concern. Typically, sessions are weekly in the beginning, moving to every other week, monthly, or as-needed, depending upon the circumstances.
